Report following the walk:
In this part of Northamptonshire the countryside and its footpaths have never been under greater threat. The cumulative effect of all the major development projects planned locally will be to concrete over thousands of acres of countryside and wildlife habitat and bring even higher levels of traffic and air and noise pollution. Over 1100 acres of land bordered by local villages have been earmarked by developers Ashfield Land and Roxhill as a site for 13 million sq ft of rail linked warehousing. To highlight the environmental consequences of these projects and the loss of open space, on 5th August over 500 people from the neighbouring villages of Roade, Blisworth & Collingtree joined together for a group walk along ancient public footpaths. Even today these remain essential for recreation and enjoyment of the countryside. Please register your support in the fight against these two monstrous proposals by signing the petitions which can be found at: www.change.org/p/andrea-leadsom-stop-roxhill-proposed-rail-freight-interchange- northampton-gateway-at-j15-m1 www.norailinterchange.co.uk (petition can be found on the right of the page) |
Rail Freight Meeting CANCELLATION
Due to the forthcoming General Election, Chris Heaton Harris MP has said he can only commit one hour to the Rail Freight Meeting scheduled for Friday 28th April.
The Parish Council feels that this does not afford sufficient time for this most serious issue to be discussed.
Another meeting will be arranged post election with the elected Member of Parliament in attendance.
The timing of the election is most unfortunate for us and the Parish Council considers that a deferment of the meeting is in the best interests of the Parish; the Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
