Village Park
The Parish Council maintains the Village Park - a recreational area situated off the Collingtree Road at the Eastern edge of the village. Since its opening in 2011, the Park has been well received and well used. In summer it is not uncommon to have twenty to forty people using the facilities.
The picnic area is frequented by local families with small children, and those from nearby villages or even Northampton. Residents tend to go there to relax after work. The equipment covers all ages from tots to teenagers but the star attraction is the zip wire! |
Since its opening, wooden goal posts have been added so proper games of football can be played and an ‘adventure path’ has been created through the bushes at the rear. The four shrub beds have been restocked and failed trees have been replaced. Annual rabbit control is in place to reduce damage (a rabbit fence is installed around the perimeter). Regular replenishment of the safety chippings at the slide, rotator and single point swing is carried out. Rubber pellets are now used as they are more economical than bark.
Lids have been fitted to the two large bins and a weekly emptying service contracted. Generally users have avoided leaving litter on the ground which is appreciated by all. For reasons of health dogs are not allowed, which is signposted at both entrances.
The Parish Council budgets for annual costs and is building a reserve for future replacement of aging equipment.
If you would like to use the Park for School and/or Village events, please contact the Parish Clerk (see Contact Us page).
If you have any problems or concerns about the Park, please advise the Parish Clerk.
History of Park
A Parish Plan, commissioned in 2005, included recommendations to provide better facilities for children and young people in the village playing field. It was badly in need of refurbishment. After several setbacks, grant funding for the project was obtained from the Government’s “Playbuilder - Local Play Spaces” scheme and from “Awards for All”. This funding, together with a generous donation, allowed work to get underway in June 2010 and was completed ready for opening on 2nd May 2011.
