Proposal to close our Post Office (5-12-2007)
The Parish Council is very concerned with the recent Post Office announcement that they are proposing to close our village Post Office.
One of the high priority conclusions published in the Milton Malsor Parish Plan 2005, was the importance of our Post Office within the community. It is a vital facility and a lifeline for many of our residents, particularly for the elderly, providing essential services for those who would find difficulty getting to an alternative post office.
There are about 170 residents in the village over the age of 60 (23% of all residents), many of whom are totally dependent on the services provided by our Post Office. Nor is Milton the only village affected - other nearby villages such as Collingtree also rely on Milton’s Post Office services. In January 2007 the Parish Council wrote to Jim Fitzpatrick, the Post Office Minister, emphasising the importance of our post office as an essential facility in our community. At the same time we asked every household in the village to support us and write to the Post Office Minister. Many of you did, and thank you for doing so.
Sadly our appeal has been totally ignored by the Government who seem to be determined to completely destroy the Post Office system. The Government is now going through a public ‘consultation’ about this closure until 10th January. Comments must be received by that date to be considered. The Parish Council will strongly object to this closure. We ask every household to do the same.

If a final decision is taken to close our Post Office, we can expect that it will be closed in March. The proposed closure will be discussed at the Parish Council meeting on Tuesday 13th December. This will include future action needed to be taken to help residents who will find it difficult to get to an alternative Post Office at Blisworth or Hunsbury.

Yet another development threat to the village (16-11-2007)
The County Council has an "allocated site" for potential sand extraction on land in Milton Malsor Parish between the village and Collingtree. The Parish Council has now received a further consultation from the County Council relating to this site, which includes a proposal to widen roads in Milton Malsor and Collingtree in order for HGVs to gain easy access to the site. Besides being an outrageous proposal, it is also extremely unsound.
The Parish Council is strongly objecting to this scandalous proposal and is fighting it on your behalf. In order to exert maximum influence on the County Council please be sure to register your objections by returning the letter which was attached to the circular recently distributed to all residents.
If you would like to know more, take a look at the proposal and scroll down to option MA4 on pages 109 - 111. Please note that the site is identified in the document as Collingtree, even though it is sited within the parish of Milton Malsor.

West Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy
As you probably know, there are plans for large-scale development in West Northamptonshire - an area that is covered by the present Northampton Borough and Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Councils. A formal eight week consultation process is already underway and an "Issues & Options" paper has been published!
These plans have the potential to affect Milton Malsor, particularly Option 4 for the expansion of Northampton which includes development to the South of the M1.
Do these plans fit with yours? The "Issues & Options" paper, and a summary leaflet, are available for download from the Joint Planning Unit website.
