Village Park

The Parish Council maintains the Village Park - a recreational area situated off the Collingtree Road at the Eastern edge of the village.

A Parish Plan, commissioned in 2005, included recommendations to provide better facilities for children and young people in the village playing field, which at that time was badly in need of refurbishment. After several setbacks, grant funding for the project was obtained from the Government's “Playbuilder - Local Play Spaces” scheme and from “Awards for All”; this funding, together with a generous donation, allowed work to get underway in June 2010. Details of the work, how it was managed, and how the prime contractor - Sutcliffe - was chosen, are set out in a report prepared by Project Manager Neil Jagger for our local Historical Society.

The project was completed on time and within budget, and the formal opening of the Park was celebrated at a village Gala Day held on 2nd May 2011. A promotional video filmed that day by Sutcliffe gives a flavour of what the Park has to offer:

The Park is inspected annually for safety by RoSPA or an equivalent qualified organisation, and more frequently by a member of the Parish Council; the assessment reports can be found on our Documents page.

The Park continues to attract numerous visitors and is a real asset to the village.
